The Memorial Lafayette Foundation

It is a Franco-American foundation created in 1916. The foundation come into being thanks to the efforts of John Moffat who was a writer, a journalist and a businessman coming from a rich Scottish family and he became the first president of the foundation and Beatrice William Astor Chandler an American artist, a sculptor and a talented writer with a passion for Lafayette. She wanted to help France as well as Lafayette help the states of America about 150 years earlier.

Thanks to their great humanitarian devotion and their important work of restoration of the castle and his garden, the founders of the Memorial Lafayette made known this place as a symbol of the Franco-American friendship.

Completely forgotten between 1960 to 1994, the foundation is now managed by a new dynamic team working to give to this Château a new image of a living place which must be classified among the major part of the French and of the international patrimony.

This place is now a Château-Musée and greets about 16000 visitors per a year for a new modern and original tour.

Today, after 84 years of existence the Memorial Lafayette adventure keep on living and in order to pursue all the new projects of maintenance we are asking for your support and for your help.
